Meet Joseph Thorneycroft, Technical Specialist
Sometimes family connections are so powerful, they blend the personal and professional. That’s the story for Joseph Thorneycroft, family man and Technical Specialist at Bigfish Technology.
“Dad was an IT genius, so growing up I used to sit on his desk, tinkering with computers and printers,” Joseph shared. “That alone got me interested in IT.”
With his interest formed at a young age, Joseph grew up building computers and playing with software. He always knew he’d have a career in technology.
After 18 months working at a large technology corporation, he wanted the chance to work more directly with clients, continue developing his skills and see the difference his work could make. That led him to Bigfish.
Hardwired to help
Joseph joined Bigfish in 2024 as a Level 2 Technical Specialist, and has been building his skills and experience steadily ever since. That’s allowed him to quickly take on more complex partner needs, contribute to project delivery and spend more time supporting businesses onsite.
That willingness to stay with a difficult problem is something the broader team values, and one of the parts of the job Joseph finds most rewarding.
“When I finally fix something for a partner that might have challenged us for a while, it’s a real “YES, IT WORKED!” moment. That makes it a good day.”
Levelling up
Joseph is now working towards Level 3 technical recognition, continuing to deepen his technical knowledge while considering the broader contribution he can make.
Part of that growth has been challenging himself to speak up when he sees an opportunity to improve something at Bigfish, as well as asking for and offering support to others.
For Joseph, that development extends well beyond work.
Beyond work
Family is still a pillar of Joseph’s life today.
“I’m a big family man. Tuesdays and Thursdays are spent having dinner with the family after work and catching up on things, as well as the typical Sunday roast with my partner.”
When he has time for himself, you’ll find Joseph watching movies with his partner, gardening with his brother, tinkering with cars, or playing games like Magic: The Gathering (a common passion in the Bigfish office!).
But technology is never far away. Joseph loves experimenting in his home lab, setting up local AI models, photo backups and home-networking tools.
“It also helps me with work, as I can build replicas of some of our more complex customer environments and trial fixes before implementing them in production.
“This helps me learn, achieve better outcomes for customers, and, honestly, it’s also just a lot of fun.”
